TAA to TAE Upgrade
As a VET trainer and assessor you are required to demonstrate vocational competence for the level of the qualification being assessed. For example, during your TAE40110 upgrade process, you will need to provide evidence of vocational competence to Certificate IV Level. TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is regarded as a senior qualification and the VET authorities have put in place fair and flexible guidelines to ensure quality in the VET sector.
Here is a brief list of ways with which you can demonstrate vocational competence during the TAE40110 upgrade and also during RPL for the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment:
by direct transfer of units of competency: this takes place when you have already completed a unit (or units) of competency from a current Training Package.
relevant previous training: this includes consideration of superseded and pre-existing industry qualifications,
a combination of the above-listed methods.
By direct transfer of credits
By recognition of current competency
By undertaking further training to fill the gaps between your current qualifications (the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and the new qualification the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.)
IDuring the TAE40110 upgrade process our TAE40110 upgrade support staff will help you identify any gaps between your TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and the new TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification.
If gaps are identified during the TAE40110 upgrade process, you will receive expert information on how to go about filling these gaps efficiently, inexpensively and ethically.
Just as with all qualifications within the VET sector, Training Packages may include guidelines specific to the competencies expected of trainers and assessors. The TAE10 Training Package contains the guidelines observed during the TAE40110 upgrade process.
Recognition during the TE40110 upgrade process is largely at the discretion of the Registered Training Provider assessor and the TAE10 Training Package is fair and flexible.
However, it is essential that the TAE40110 upgrade be conducted in an ethical and professional manner. TAE40110 upgrade records WILL be closely scrutinized during audits. Non-compliance, and fraudulent practises can lead to the deregistration of the RTO and in severe cases even the invalidation of certificates.

TAE40110 upgrade - currency
As part of your TAE40110 upgrade process you will need to provide evidence that you have maintained currency in your industry skills and your activities as a trainer and assessor.
Remember that the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment includes two major components---training AND assessing. Therefore, you will be required to show evidence during the TAE40110 upgrade that you have been maintaining currency in both areas. Of course you will also need to show evidence that you have maintained currency in the skills that are specific to your industry.
Participating in upgrade workshops, training updates, and any other activity involving aspects of your qualification and industry skills are considered acceptable evidence.

BSZ Qualifications and other old and superseded qualifications
I hold a BSZ qualification. Is there a direct credit map towards the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment?
The BSZ is an outdated and superseded qualification. There is no direct mapping or direct credit transfer possible between the BSZ qualification and the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
You also need to consider the currency factor when producing BSZ qualifications during the TAE401101 upgrade or RPL for the TAE10 qualification.
Just as with all outdated and superseded qualifications, do include them for consideration in your TAE401101 upgrade application or RPL application for the TAE40110.
The BSZ, together with prior experience and evidence of professional development is valuable evidence to be included in your portfolio, and will be considered during the RPL process for the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Please click on the RPL to TAE10 section of this page or visit the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment dedicated website for more information.
If you have a question, please send an e-mail to our TAE40110 upgrade staff.
TAE40110 upgrade - Degrees and teachers' qualifications
I have a degree, masters, PhD, and I am currently delivering lectures and assessing adult students. Do I still need to have the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification? Can I use my qualifications as evidence during a TAE40110 upgrade?
Delivering training to, and assessing adults in the workplace under VET involves different competencies than those used to deliver lectures and assess assignments.
Therefore under the AQTF/NVR guidelines you will be required to hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification.
You are entitled to include your academic qualifications for consideration during an RPL process, together with any prior experience you may have had in delivering training and assessment to adults in the workplace.
However, do know that there are vast recognised gaps between academic qualifications in lecturing, and the TAE10 Training Package.
We are sure you will enjoy learning the dynamic ways used to train and assess adults in the workplace.
TAE401110 Upgrade to TAE401110 or RPL to TAE401110
What is the difference between the TAA401110 upgrade process and the RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) for the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment?
During the TAE40111 upgrade process you e-mail us a copy of your TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment certificate making sure that the certificate includes the list of the elective units you completed.
You also provide us with evidence that addresses known gaps between the TAAA40104 qualification and the TAE401110 qualification.
It is essentially a direct credit transfer process. The TAE401110 upgrade process is fairly straight forward, and provided you include all the evidence required, it can be resolved within 24 hours.
If you are unable to provide all the evidence required and our staff has to assess a portfolio of evidence, the TAA401110 upgrade is elevated to an RPL process and extra charges may incur.
During the RPL process to the TAE10 you provide us with a portfolio of evidence.
This may include a variety of documents and evidence, for example, supporting letters from employers, evidence of courses you have completed, and evidence of experience in delivering and assessing training.
The RPL to the Cert IV in Training and Assessment, is demanding on our staff and resources and it will take a little more time than the TAE40110 upgrade process.
